Protect the Recipient Area
Avoid touching, rubbing or scratching the transplanted area unless specifically instructed by the clinic.
Science. Art. Experience.
The hair transplant procedure is only the beginning of your restoration journey. Proper aftercare helps protect newly transplanted grafts, supports early healing and provides the right conditions for progressive hair growth.
This guide explains the general recovery process after hair transplantation. Your individual instructions may differ depending on your procedure, scalp condition and clinical assessment.
THE FIRST DAYS
The first days after a hair transplant are important for protecting the newly transplanted grafts and allowing the scalp to begin healing. Follow the instructions provided by Dr. Kaya and avoid unnecessary pressure, friction or trauma to the recipient area.
Avoid touching, rubbing or scratching the transplanted area unless specifically instructed by the clinic.
Hair washing should follow the clinic's recommended technique and timing. Gentle handling is important during the early healing period.
Use the recommended sleeping position to reduce unnecessary pressure and contact with the recipient area during the first days.
Heavy exercise and activities that significantly increase sweating or physical strain should be avoided until you receive clearance to resume them.
SCALP CARE
The first wash after the operation is performed by our staff at the clinic. Washing helps reduce crusting, lowers the risk of infection and relieves the scalp. If washing is not performed regularly until the 10th day, it may negatively affect the success of the operation.
Apply the recommended moisturising/care lotion to the implanted area and wait at least 20 minutes.
Remove/rinse the lotion with slow-flowing, warm water.
Pour some shampoo into your hand and create a lather. Apply the shampoo to the implanted area with gentle touches (dabbing). You can apply the shampoo to the donor area with a gentle massage.
Remove/rinse the shampoo with slow-flowing, warm water.
Never rub, scratch, or massage the implanted area.
Repeat the washing process once a day as shown in the first wash.
Apply the recommended moisturising/care lotion to the implanted area and wait at least 1–1.5 hours.
Remove/rinse the lotion with slow-flowing, warm water.
Pour some shampoo into your hand and create a lather. Apply the shampoo to the implanted area with a gentle massage. While applying shampoo to the implanted area, massage gently from the back of your head towards the front to help remove the crusts, but do not push or force them.
Remove/rinse the shampoo and loosened crusts with slow-flowing, warm water.
After this day, return to your normal hair-washing routine with the recommended shampoo. Daily washing is recommended for very oily skin, while washing every two days is recommended for normal and dry skin.
Use a more active massage while washing and allow the remaining crusts to fall away over the following 1–2 days. Otherwise, the implanted area may be adversely affected.
The timing and technique for washing can vary between patients. Always prioritize your individualized postoperative instructions.
RECOVERY TIMELINE
Recovery happens gradually. Redness, swelling, crusting and temporary shedding can occur during normal healing, while visible new growth develops over several months.
The scalp begins healing. Mild redness, sensitivity or swelling may occur depending on the individual.
Gentle washing and careful handling remain important while the recipient and donor areas continue to recover.
Some transplanted hairs may shed during this stage. Temporary shedding can be part of the normal hair-growth cycle.
New transplanted hair may gradually become visible as follicles enter active growth.
Hair progressively thickens and matures. The final appearance continues to develop over time.
Recovery and hair-growth timelines vary between individuals. Clinical assessment is the most appropriate way to evaluate your healing and progress.
DAILY LIFE AFTER TRANSPLANT
Returning to normal activities should be gradual. Protecting the scalp from friction, pressure, excessive sweating and direct environmental exposure can help support a smooth recovery.
Follow the recommended sleeping position during the early recovery period and avoid unnecessary pressure on the transplanted area.
Resume physical activity according to your clinic's instructions. Strenuous exercise may need to be restricted during the early recovery period.
Protect the healing scalp from direct and prolonged sun exposure according to your postoperative instructions.
Only use headwear when appropriate and according to the instructions provided by your medical team.
WHAT IS NORMAL?
Not every visible change after transplantation indicates a problem. Some temporary changes are part of the normal healing and hair-growth cycle.
Temporary redness around the recipient area can occur during early healing.
Mild swelling may develop during the first days and usually settles progressively.
Small crusts can form around transplanted grafts as the scalp heals.
Transplanted hairs may temporarily shed before new growth begins. This does not necessarily mean the transplant has failed.

Questions & Answers
Graft count depends on your Norwood stage, donor density, and desired coverage. Most patients need between 2,500–5,000 grafts; Dr. Kaya provides an exact estimate after reviewing your photos during the free consultation.
Sapphire FUE opens channels first, then implants grafts by hand — ideal for larger sessions. DHI implants directly with a Choi Pen without pre-opened channels, giving tighter control over angle and depth for hairline work.
Transplanted hair sheds within 2–4 weeks (normal), regrowth starts around month 3–4, and full density is typically visible at 10–12 months.
The area is fully numbed with local anesthesia before the procedure begins. Most patients report mild discomfort, not pain, and it's manageable with the medication provided.
Yes. All-inclusive packages cover airport pickup, hotel accommodation, transport to the clinic, translator support, and post-op medication.
